This role would suit someone who has the ability to work calmly and professionally in a fast-paced kitchen, whilst mentoring and coaching a diverse team. This role also requires someone who is able to work in a sensitive and supportive way with people from vulnerable backgrounds. The principal responsibility of the Sous Chef is to maintain the high standards and consistency in the kitchen, in the catering prepared and management throughout the kitchen. The Sous Chef must work closely with the Head Chef to assist in managing the Work Work Program participants in the kitchen and oversee all Work Work Program activity. This position requires you to work calmly and professionally in what can be a fast-paced kitchen environment and to communicate well with all team members and suppliers. Ad hoc duties will be required at times, as directed by management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drive and maintain the Two Good culture and brand throughout the kitchen by communicating effectively, developing positive work relationships and leading the team in efficiency and culture.
  • Motivate staff to perform to the best of their ability. Ensure staff follow all Two Good procedures and adhere to the Two Good Code of Conduct.
  • Ability to manage and resolve complex or escalated complaints and disputes with colleagues by using effective conflict resolution techniques and communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive work-life balance by practicing and modelling appropriate self care on an individual, team and organisation-wide basis.
  • Manage and oversee the development of staff through the Two Good and Work Work Program training guides, both individually and as a team.
  • Complete required reporting documentation for Work Work Program participants working closely with the Program Manager
  • Mentor and motivate all kitchen employees, particularly participants in the Work Work Program
  • Help to manage the kitchen and ensure it is clean and well maintained at all times.
  • Correct and hygienic food handling procedures will also need to be closely supervised. For these reasons, the Sous Chef must hold a current Food Safety Supervisors Certificate.
  • Help to implement and maintain all systems and procedures.
  • Work with the Head Chef to ensure all files and records are up to date, including WHS and Equipment and Work Work Program training files.
  • Work closely with the Head Chef and Group Chef to output the highest standard of food for internal catering, events and the cafe offering.

Requirements:

  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Considerable experience in a commercial kitchen, with some experience of managing a kitchen team.
  • Completion of industry approved studies in Commercial Cookery, or relevant comparable industry experience and a current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate.
  • Catering and/or cafe as well as baking experience is favourable.
